Tea chai and spices from Northeast India

About Us

Who Are We?

Laahe was born in Buffalo, NY, from a longing for the authentic taste of home. Growing up in Northeast India—a region celebrated for its stunning biodiversity, rich cultural heritage, and unique culinary traditions—food and chai were central to every moment, from family gatherings to quiet, contemplative mornings. Assam, my home state and the heart of the region, is renowned for its world-class tea and vibrant spices that have shaped the way the world experiences flavor.

That’s why I started Laahe: to bring the authentic tastes of Northeast India to your cup and kitchen. From our grade-A, single-origin Assam teas to indigenous spices sourced from across the region, we are passionate about sharing the bold, rich flavors that define this part of the world.

The word Laahe means “slow” in Assamese, symbolizing the pace of life back home—a reminder to pause, savor, and connect. Whether it’s a cup of chai brewed with love, traditional masala blends, or recipes inspired by my roots, Laahe invites you to experience the essence of Northeast India, one sip and bite at a time.

Here’s to bringing the flavors of home to your table. Welcome to Laahe.

Our Company

We proudly source our tea and spices from carefully selected estates and farms in North East India, ensuring it’s ethically sourced. This way, we support not just the tea growers and farmers but also the hardworking tea pickers, contributing to fair wages and better working conditions. Every cup or dish you enjoy helps make a positive impact on the lives of those who bring this exceptional tea to you.

At Laahé, we’re a minority-owned company bringing the rich culture of chai and vibrant spices from Northeast India to America, much like how coffee culture has grown. Chai, meaning “tea” in Hindi, is more than just a drink—it’s a celebration of culture and connection. India has over 20 unique chai recipes, each region adding its own twist with different spices and herbs, like Saah in Assam.

We’re here to share that experience, introducing aromatic spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, which not only flavor your chai but also bring bold, vibrant tastes to your cooking. Sprinkle cardamom on oatmeal, add cinnamon to your baked goods, or use these spices in savory dishes for a boost of flavor and wellness.

Our single-origin, ethically sourced teas and spices are grade A quality, supporting farmers and communities in Northeast India. At Laahé, we invite you to explore the flavors of chai and bring the warmth of Northeast India into your home, one cup and meal at a time.

Founder Story

Abir Rajkhowa

Founder and Chai Wallah

Hey, I’m Abir Rajkhowa, founder of Laahe. Born and raised in Northeast India, I moved to Buffalo and realized I couldn’t find a cup of chai that tasted like home. So, I decided to fix that. With over a decade of experience in marketing, e-commerce, and scaling brands, I’ve always had a knack for building things that people love with a purpose. After countless cups of bad chai (seriously, it was a struggle), I knew I had to bring the flavors of Assam and our vibrant spices to the U.S. Laahe is my way of sharing my roots, the culture, and the warmth of chai with everyone—one comforting cup at a time.

Founder and Chai Wallah

An immigrant with a deep love for chai who ended up bringing it to the US. Growing up, every adult warned me that if I didn’t hit the books, I’d end up as a “chai wallah”. Well, guess what? I did hot the books, but I guess still wanted to be one—because who wouldn’t want to share their life story over a cup of chai?
